La Cienega - Like their lives, the downtown mansion of oil baron Edward Doheny and his wife Estelle was a work in progress — from its formidably eclectic Victorian exterior by Hunt and Eisen (1899), to subsequent alterations and additions by Alfred Rosenheim (1913-15) and Los Angeles' domestic architect par excellence, Wallace Neff (1933). As their wealth grew and styles changed, the Dohenys filled the mansion's interior with furnishings and art works reflecting their history and aspirations. Emulating the Belle Epoque tastes of established East Coast industrialists, they decorated — and redecorated — the mansion rooms in French Rococo, Pompeian Revival and Georgian styles. However, all the Tuscan marbles, Barbizon landscapes, gilded Corinthian columns, exquisite marquetry and Tiffany glass also cohabited with Native American artifacts.A genuine "L.A." story, the Doheny Mansion today remains a living monument to the life and tastes of a remarkable figure in American history.

Exhibition open from May 13th - 26th at Fuller + Roberts Co. - 729 N. La Cienega - The first large scale exhibition of original lithographs, spanning 1935 to 1957, by the celebrity caricaturist Jaques Kapralik. Using different elements- such as fabric, doll hair, buttons, and metallic paper- Kapralik created clever and witty shadow box collage caricatures of well-known film stars for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer's publicity department. Some of the stars he captured in his colorful collages include Katharine Hepburn, Judy Garland, Cary Grant, Joan Crawford, Spencer Tracy, and Clark Gable- among many others. The exhibition will run from May 12 to May 26, 2011. There will be a number of original Kapralik's available for purchase.

Exhibition Open from Friday, May 13th thru Saturday, May 14th at Hallworth at Stanton Court - 767 ½ N. La Cienega - In support of modern artisans, Hallworth welcomes you to a subtle exhibition of crafted works by a distinguished collection of contemporary artisans/designers. As a patron of these artisans, Hallworth curates this exhibition of commissioned projects to encourage the appreciation for and the collecting of such groundbreaking works.

Trunk Show open from May 13th - 14th - 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. at Hollyhock - 927 N. La Cienega - Hollyhock is pleased to host a trunk show for botanical artist, Lauren. Lachance reinterprets the 500-year-old tradition of pressing plants to create stunning contemporary art pieces from botanical specimen that she collects from around the world. Examples of her work will be on display for the entire weekend.
